Please help me make this unit better for future students.
In the first paragraph (at least 5-7 sentences) write about positive experiences you had with the project (things you liked, things you learned, improved on, things you realized, things I did well, etc.).
In the second paragraph (at least 5-7 sentences) what are some aspects of this project you didn't like, and explain how you would fix the problem.
In the third paragraph (at least 5-7 sentences) describe a specific thing that happened during your teamwork that was positive and fun. Or talk about how this project has affected how you think or feel about poetry.
If you're feeling especially helpful you might suggest some examples I could use for various devices used in the precision poetry drill team assignment (i.e. simultaneous contrasting lines, or unison lines, or someone performing live).
Thanks for helping me make this a better unit for future students.

I really liked this project. In the beggining I was nervoius but it was cool in the end. I made some friends I probably wouldn't have been with but I'm glad I did it. This project was challenging. The good part was all the practise time we got. I also liked how we got to incorperate a little bit of stuff at a time not shoving all the stuff in at once. I liked how we got to see examples as well, such as the Buffy video or the Stripes one.
ReplyDeleteSome stuff I didn't like was definitly how much you had to rely on other people because if they mess up then u get punished with a lower grade. It was not reallly fun when you realize how much this grade counted, so the nervousness I didn't like. Other than that I thought it was a good project and I really liked doing it.
Anyway, I think this brought poetry back from the dead for me. Before it was crushed, burned, and beried but now I really understand how fun it is. The big presentation for the team was fun and I thought it was a good way to show how much we really worked on it. I hope we do something like this in high school and I think the 7th graders will have fun next year.

English poetry
I really enjoyed this poetry project that we did this year. I was out sick for a couple of days so when i found out we were doing poems i was bummed out. When I got my poem and got signed to a group it got better. But when I found out we had to present it to the class and the hole entire green team i got kinda nervous. But then after a while i memorized the poem and the movements down i was not that so scared.
I was so pleased that we got thirteen classes to rehearse will our group.
My, Favorite part is when we did all those tongue twisters with the whole class and got to hear and see other people and your self mess up.
The things I did that i did not really like at all is when if one of your team mates messed up and got the whole poem or verse ruined. And how if most of your group wanted to work and one person did not you practice with out the member. I wish we got one or two more times to practice the poem up stage during class before we performed in front of our class. The most thing i hated more is if the majority off your group was goofing of we would get points taken off of lack of practice time.
Besides, all of the bad and good things that happened during this project i really liked it. I really did not care for poetry and did not understand it. But during this project Mr.Andree really changed the way i look at poetry now. I use to think the poets were just making these stupid and rediculuosly ryming words up. But now i know that these things really happened to the poets. Over all i think this was a great project and that the in coming seventh graders will appreciate this project and like it as much as i did.

This was a really fun project. I didn't think poetry could have a drill team, it sounded dorky at first, but it was fun. I liked my group, they all worked hard, and we did an awesome job with the ONOMOTOPEIA poem. This was a fun way to introduce poetry.
Things that I disliked. I disliked looking like a dork on stage but hey, whatchya going to do. I didn't like having to make a lot of changes to it ex: we had to throw in a similar contrasting line, and the echo.
I like poetry. Always have. I'm really good at rhyming and making poems off the top of my head. My favorites are haiku and limricks.
This was a great project to get people's stereotypes about poetry out of the way. I liked that we weren't given the poem, a checklist, and told to do our project. Mr. Andree only let us incorporate one or two aspects of the project at a time. He also made sure that we all understood everything we had to use in our rendition of the poem we had to perform. I liked that we were given good size groups, unlike in the Medieval Monologue Project where it seemed as all the eyes in the class were on solely you. We also were given the opportunity to pick our groups so we didn't have to always fight, we could work together well.
ReplyDeleteThough this was a good project overall, there were some parts I did not enjoy as much. I did not like that we essentially had to judge the poem on its title when we picked our poem. I thought that that would not allow us to have a good poem that we could understand; it was luck of the draw on weather you would get an understandable poem or not. I thought that giving people roles did not need to happen, leaders were a figurehead except for a few minor decisions, scribes hardly ever wrote anything down, and timekeepers were obsolete as Mr. Andree would remind us how much time we had. There should have been no titles assigned. Also, the fact that everybody could fail because one person was a slacker was unfair.
Before this project I considered poetry a pointless waste of time. I thought it was hard to understand and that it had no meaning whatsoever. Now I now that a poem is just a word puzzle. It can be taken a part, with its code decrypted and it can tell a story. Also, I learned that poetry can be preformed either solo or as a team. Had I not been part of this project, never would have known how wrong I was about poetry.

This was a very fun project and I really liked doing it there so many activities and things you did to help everyone understand it better. I really liked how we had a lot of time to work on this. Also you respected all of us and knew we were not able to put everything in the poem at once, so you did it on a different day. Another thing I really liked was you got to pick the people you wanted to work with and you got to pick the poem you wanted to do.
There were somethings you could change. You could have let us look at the poem besides relying on the poems title. Another thing you should change is that if one person messed up you should not take points off of the other people who did what they were supposed to. Another thing I did not like was how we all had to have a "role" and to be honest I think a lot of people forgot they had a role so everyone just did what you told us to do.
I have always liked poetry so I was really excited to do this project. I have never done a poetry project like this and I am glad I had the chance to in your class. We got to work with our friends and that was really fun. This project has made me like poetry more than I did before and I am very pleased with this project.
There were a few things I liked about this project. The first was how we incorperated different things like solo's or blocking one day at a time. This sort of made it easier to be able to get what we had already had and just take things one step at a time rather than stuff everythign in at once. I also liked not only how we worked in groups, but how we had the freedom to choose them. That helps you not only be with people you aren't comfortable around, but it also takes off some of the pressure on you. The amount of time we had to prepare our poems was good too. I also think two preformances was a good idea since it show you what you can fix and it makes you more comfortable around groups of people.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I didn't like was how we only chose a poem by its title. Sure it doesn't make a group choose a short poem on purpose, but the title isn't always informative enough on the poem. Next time I think students should preview a poem before picking it. Another thing I didn't like quite as much is how grades were reflected on an individuals contribution in a way that if one person messed up, the whole group suffered. What you could do next time is have a couple different grades, where one is an individual grade. I also didn't like the asigned roles (ex. leader). By having roles to focus everyone, you get accomplished but in alot of cases the leader is responsible for everyone's actions, which can be stressfull. Next time, everyone should have equal position, but equal work as well.
I have to admit that before this project, I looked at poetry very diferently. I would basically see it as rhymes and stuff. But when you showed us the things we could do like unison lines to almost compose the poem, my eyes were opened. It made me realze that there is so much you can make out of basically nothing. I looked at this and realized that stuff like songwritting is more than making up words and notes to go with them. Overall though, the project was a very good one.

ReplyDeleteThere were many good aspects of this project. The first being that it was a group project. Being up on stage was much more comfortable than being up there alone. Another good experience was how we didn’t know what the poem was about or who it was written by when we chose what we would be reading in front of the whole green team. Not knowing the subject of the poem helped us to find respect and work with something we do not enjoy. I think these good aspects will help us in later years.
Some aspects that I didn’t enjoy were how we had roles on the team and also how if one person had stage fright or didn’t show up that the group had to suffer. First, roles in this project really didn’t matter in my opinion. The leader didn’t really control other team members and no one in the group remembered to write anything down. Second, a lot of kids chicken out or don’t let performances on stage so being forced to rely on kids to show up for one of the biggest grades of the year wasn’t a good idea. Even though these bad aspects applied it was still a good overall project.
Specifically, there were many good things about this project. One particurally good was how we got one thing to work on each day. For example, one day we would work on echos, then another blocking. Overall it was a good way to spread out the work and instead of just saying “Today were going to rehearse” and leaving it up to us to find stuff to work on it gave a purpose to each and every day. This project was overall a good experience and taught how to perform and handle yourself in front of a large crowd.
This poetry project was really enjoyable. I liked many things about it. I liked how we got to work in a larger group than usual. This way we got to work with people you probly wouldnt work with because they would have choosed basically their regular partner they always choose. I also liked how we got to rearrange and add in knew things to the poem to make them more interesting. I thought is way cool to add in blocking that fit in with the poem. I also liked how we got to practice with the microphones. This helped us to get used to being on the stage and really projecting our voice. It also helped with not being as nervouse considering we had ran through our poem with microphones on the stage.
ReplyDeleteDuring this project there were a few things that I did not really like. I did not like how we did not get to know the authors of the peoms befor we picked them. It really was that fair considering some poems were harder to work with than other. I also did not really like the fact that the roles really did not matter. Everyone took a turn being the leader. We would all decide together as a team if an idea was good enough to use the leader wouldnt just make the decision. The time keeper was usless because Mr.Andree would alway remind us how much time we had left for assingments and practices.
This project over all was really valuable. Poetry know has a meaning to me. I never really thought about poetry in the way that it relates to real life things. I used to think poetry had to ryme. Know I no that poetry is like a story some happy and some meaningful. I used to think poetry wad borring and pointless. I know no that poetry is only boring if you make it boring. You can make the poetry alot more fun by changing tone of voice and adding in different sound affects that fit in with what you think the meaning of the poem is. All poetry is interpreted differently to all people.
During this project, many positive things happened to my group which improved our poetry interest and skills. For example, I liked how you gave us something to add everyday instead of throwing everything at us the first day. It was a very big help for me because I was the team leader sometimes my team and I would fight over little things but instead of arguing over all the things we did wrong, we got over that little thing after a few minutes and moved on with our project. I also improved on remembering things only I had to do while the rest of my team did something different. I liked this project overall because it was fun. This project taught me many things about poetry like it is not just lines that rime or a boring old story. I realized that poetry was much more than that and that you could actually have a fun time with it.
ReplyDeleteI did not like how little time you gave us to make and learn a choreography. We only had Friday to make it and monday to learn it and Tuesday were presenting to the class. I think it gave us less of a chance to actually make a good and practiced choreography. You could probably given us one or two more days to make and learn a great practiced choreography. Also, I didn't like the fact that we had to pick our poem based not the title. It felt like judging a book by it's cover because some poems that I thought were going to be bad turned out very good. You could probably fix this by giving the titles to the future students and have them choose three. Then, they would read those three poems and choose the best one to work with.
All in all, I thought this project was very fun and interesting. I have never liked poetry in my life and this project changed my mind. I didn't know how much fun it could be to do a project with poetry. It really changed my views on poetry in a positive way and I like it. I learned that poetry isn't just some boring short story but something you could actually do something fun with it. I especially liked it because I got to do it with my friends and I think that motivated me even more.
The poetry drill team assignment was a great learning experience and an enjoyable project. For one, I got to meet new people and the team building was excellent. The project also helped with my annunciation and pronouncing words more clearly. It is always good to be clear and precise when you speak. Finally, I gained a whole new prospective on poetry.
ReplyDeleteThere was lots of things that I didn't like about this project. For one, I feel like we took up too much time in the beginning practicing annunciating and using pronunciation drills. It was a good skill but I feel like it took up too much of the time. I thought that we also should have practiced on the microphones more. It was good to see what it sounded like over a microphone.
Finally, There was a couple specific things I liked about the project. For one, I liked going outside to practice. It was nice to get some fresh air and to practice at the same time. Also, the project was spread out nicely. One day we would spend practicing, the next we would add in specific things to our poem. I also liked how when we chose our poem all you gave us was the title. It added a sense of mystery. This project was a great experience.
During the poetry drill team there where many good and bad parts about the project. I liked all the time we had to work on the project. That way we could under stand and correct things that were wrong and did not go with the poem. Adding new parts to the poem every day was fun because at the end of each class the poem was different than when we started. We got to see the poem and make it how we wanted it to and not what the writer taught it to be.
ReplyDeleteI did not like not knowing what your poem would be till you got it. I would let the students see a part of the poem that way they would be able to see what they would be working with if they chose that poem. You might want to try to give some teams the same poem so they can see how other people would change that poem.
On the last day to go over our poem my team and I did not think we were going to do a good job performing. We all decided we had to kick it in to over drive. We pushed our self ally hard so that we would not do bad on the big day. All an all this project was really fun to do and took a lot of time and effort.
The positive experience that I had was that I have never looked at poems the way we did. When we picked the poems you had to think which of the poems are going to be interesting by only knowing the name. That some of the lines of a song are actually the beat of the song just by saying the line of the poem over and over again
ReplyDeleteThe only things I didn’t like about the poetry section was that we could not see some of the people form last year performing the poetry. If you had shown people from last year performing I think it would have been even better performances. Next year you can show the seventh graders the film of our performances and show them that it is not that bad tat you are just going up there to had fun and possible make a fool of yourself.
The hardest part is the teamwork because everyone will have different ideas on how you should do this or do that, you need to make sure that when you are getting in groups you make sure you can work with the people that you pick. This will affect the way I look at poetry because I have never thought there is a rhythm to each poem.
This project was a really cool experience because we all got to do things that we normally wouldn't be able to do in English class. For example, I liked when we were rehersing in the auditorium because we were kind of independent. In my group were allowed to yell throughout the poem even when we were just practicing so that was nice because we never yell in English class. I also learned to lead a group a little better and just work in a group overall. One of the biggest things I got out of this is learning how to perform in front of a big stage with a crowd/audience. I think that benefited me the most because I was nervous throughout the whole project. I also realized that is a lot harder for performers or musicians to memorize certain things because there's no way I could do that sort of job.
ReplyDeleteThere were a few things I didn't really like in this project. One of them was the job system. For my group we didn't really use that at all. The one thing I think you should keep in that is just the leader role. The other ones to me aren't as useful and kind of get forgotten when we really get into the practicing/rehearsing. Another thing I think you should change is allowing students to see which poems they are picking. I know you showed us the titles but we weren't really sure on what the poem was actually like from just the title. One last thing to change would be the practicing time. I think we should get a little more because some groups needed a lot of time to get everything sorted out.
The project has definitely effected my view on poetry because now I don't view it as boring as I did before. Now I think it can be a little more interesting if you do it like we did in class. It CAN be fun if it's done right. At first I just thought this would be a boring poem that we have to memorize and perform, without any chirography or acting. But now I know it's much more then the simple memorizing of the poem. And when there are more aspects to the poem, it is much more entertaining and fun for students and groups.
The hardest part of the project was getting everyone to learn their role and to be good at it. And just having everyone focused and getting work done. For myself, sometimes when we were practicing I would say someone else's line, or I would just do something wrong. So the problem was just memorizing everything in order to perform correctly. I think if I practiced more then I wouldn't have that problem, but it was still hard to memorize every single line and all the chirography. Overall it was a great project and I thought it was much better then writing a paper, simply because it was different.
This was a good project, i learned that poems have a deeper meaning and not all are rhyming kids poems. I also learned that people suprise you, weather it is a procrastinating group nailing the project or hard workers being hard to work with.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like my group for this project. If i could have picked a new group i would have. I also didn't like the poem i had, luck of the draw i guess. I think you should have made all the poems the same length, so no group had to get stuck with a long poem while the others got short poems.
This project was fun, it gave me a new view on poetry. I use to think that poetry was a bunch of words that rhymed. Now i see that it has a story behind it, that you can dig down into a poem and find its real meaning. This project allowed me to give poetry a second chance. I also liked how it made me read poetry, because before it i would have just never picked up another poem again.
There were many good things about this project. first of all, I liked how we got to pick the people we wanted in our group. We all worked very well together and nobody had to work harder than the rest of us. Atfirst moving into this poetry unit seemed like it would be absolutly boring but it wasn't. Doing the drill teams made poetry interesting and different. I also liked the fact that we had alot of time to work on it and rehearse it. It seemed scary to do it on stage but it turned out to be pretty fun.
ReplyDeleteThere were very few things that I didnt like about this poetry unit. I didn't like that everyday we added something new in such as echoes, unison lines, and contrasting lines. It would of been easier to do it all at once. The reason being is that every single day we added something in we were tripping over other lines. It got a little confusing. I also didn't like that you had absolutly no idea what your poem was because once you got it you were stuck with it.
This project made me look at poetry in a whole different way. Before I looked at it as being really boring. I used to dread doing it. Now, I know that it doesn't HAVE to be boring. Adding in different types of lines and several people made it interesting and fun.
This poetry project really helped me look at poetry very differnetly. I learned that poetry is only boring if you look at it in a boring way. But if you make it fun and really think about the real meaning behind the poem, it can be a lot more interesting. I have inproves on talking infront of large croweds, which is one thing that I like doing the least in school. After my team didn’t mess up during our performance, it made me realize that it’s not so bad talking infront of a huge group of people and that it feels good that you can accomplish something after all of the hard work that we have done on the poem.
ReplyDeleteThe parts that I didn’t like about this project is that we had to do the poems on stage infont of the whole team. I think that you should ask each team if they wanted to go on stage and do their poem drill. Or atleast pick the top 2 poem teams from each mod to show to the whole green team. I also didn’t like that you only gave the tittle of the poems to chose from. We should have looks at atleast some of the poems so that we could chose the one that we liked the best.
This project helpes me with teamwork a lot. It got me to rely on my team mates better and to trust them to get their work in on time or to not screw up on their lines. Our team had a lot of fun when we were working really hard together to try to make the poem perfect. It really helped our team when we went outside to practice our lines. It got us in the mood to yell the poem as loud as we could and to just have fun with it. Our group had to be louder so going outside and having us yell the poem really helped.
this was a great idea. There was alot of interesting sects. of the unit. i liked the part were we mingled. we were able to see all the other people make faces at you. plus we were able to get sritiqueds that made us better.
ReplyDeletethe parts i didnt like were mostly the final project. the final project didnt let me work well because my group and me kind of slaked at times. i didnt like being in a group that was... slaky. there wernt many people that i would have wanted to work with in my class anyway but this group was bad. you might want to pick the groups.
There were many things that I liked about the poetry project. One of the reasons that I liked this project was that we got the opportunity to pick our groups, which made it more fun because we got to work with people that we liked to work with. I used to think that poetry was really boring and I never really understood poetry before this project. This is another reason that I liked this project because I am no longer confused by poetry and I dont find it boring. My favorite part of the project was getting to present our poems on the stage because it was really fun and I liked hearing the other groups poems also. Presenting on the stage helped me become less nervous during presentations.
ReplyDeleteThere were a few aspects of this project that I disliked. One thing that I didn't like was presenting our poems to the whole grade because it was kind of embarrassing. Presenting to our class was fine though. Another part of the project that I did not like was that you only showed us the titles of the poem. I didn't like this because my group picked a poem because we liked the title, but then we read the poem and hated it but we couldn't change our poem. So next time you do this project I think you should let people look at the poems as well as the titles. I also think that the job roles were useless. We didn't need a time keeper because you told us how much time we had left, also we all contributed making team decisions, so there was no need for a "leader".
In my team we had a lot of fun because there was always arguing between the leader and Jackie. Jackie always wanted it her way but we voted Michaela to be the leader so she couldn't really do anything about it. This project made me think about poetry in a different way then I used to. Over all I thought that this project was very helpful by getting us to think about poetry in a different way.
This project was very fun. I enjoyed listening to all of the different poems. i liked how everyone had a different arangement. my favorite part of this project was working on making our poem sound cool.
ReplyDeleteThis project was very difficult at times because my group did not get along very well. we constantly fought and got off tast often. I didnt like that we had to pick poems based on their names. i think that we should have been able to read all of the poems first and then pick the one that we wanted the most. I also think that we should have had smaller groups, of 2 or 3 people instead of 3 or 4 people.
I am a very big fan of poetry. i love to look at the words in a poem and figure out its meanings. poetry means alot to me because i think that life has different meanings for everyone and i believe that poetry helps people find thoses meanings. Poetry helps people and thats why i love poetry.

ReplyDeleteThis was a positive experience because we got to try a new topic in English class that was related to music. We also got to work in groups instead of individually because in a group you can combine ideas unlike working alone. I liked how we didn’t have to read and write essays we just got to make a song out of a poem. I improved on ways that you can turn a poem into a song with beats, echoes, unison lines… I liked how you gave us something new to add to our song everyday and not just throwing it all into one day. You gave us examples of other songs that have what you want us to include in our poems. You got us to practice saying echoes, unison, and fast and slow tempos with the whole class. Also giving us enough time to finish the poems made them perfect.
I didn’t like how we didn’t get to read the poems before we chose what one we were going to work with. For the future classes you should let us read each poem instead of just reading the title. You could also just assign the poems to future classes because if you were the last mod and they got a poem they didn’t want then its not their fault they had English class last. I also didn’t like how we had to perform the poems in front of the whole green team because it is nerve-racking enough to do it in front of the class. In the future you should just keep it to just class performances.
This project was fun because we got to pick who we wanted to work with and we got to make it fun and not serious and boring. It was also fun to try something that our age range is into. Our age group likes music so to be able to try to make our own version of a poem is more fun the reading and writing. Completing this project gave me a whole different look at the way you can read poetry. By adding beats, tempos, and verses can make reading a poem sound a lot different and unique.
I really liked this project, best out of any project this hole year. What I really liked about this project was picking the people we wanted. I was comfortable with my group allowing me to express my ideas more easily. I learned how to overcome my fear of talking in front of not only one class, but a very large group of people, while being recorded. After being told my group was the best out of the whole team it helped me realize that trying really hard does get you somewhere and pays off. The last thing I enjoyed about this project was having a ton of time to work on the project and having lots of help.
ReplyDeleteThere were almost nothing that I disliked about this poem project. One thing I disliked about the project was how roles where assigned. I didn't think it was a ton of use because once one person in the team was off track the rest of the group could easily follow. But for my group, the roles started to fade away after we started practicing. The last thing I disliked was how everyday there was something new to add to the poems. It would have been much easier to add them in all at once after being explained what each one was. I found that my group was adding them in before we were explained what they were and sort of getting confused.
After this project was over it gave me a hole new prospective on poetry. I now know that it can be fun and it's not all about silly rhymes. I used to hate poetry because I am not one of the most creative people, so I thought I would not bebe able to do so well on this project. I know think poetry can be extremely fun and a great way to express your feelings when finding out the true meaning of a poem.
I thought the poetry unit was fun. I liked how we didn't get to look through the poems and pick one we liked. I liked how we had to pick a poem solely based on the title. That made the project really interesting. I also liked working in a big group like we did. Teamwork is very important when working in a group that size. I also liked working with other kids who were overachievers so I didn't have to do all the work. This english project really built teamwork and was fun at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThere were a couple things I didn't like about the project. I think part of the project I didn't like were there were too many smart kids who wanted to all do different things. It made trying to do stuff really difficult. I can't think of a way to improve this. Also some kids goofed off or didn't work hard during the project. Again, I'm not sure how to fix this. When you gave us something to add I didn't think you gave us enough time to add that thing into out poem before you called us together again. I think you need to give us a little more time to add stuff into our poem. You would give us something to add into our poem and then you only waited a couple minutes before we had to come back together and add something else to our poem. A little more time would have been great.
The teamwork that took place in our group was fun and great for our poem. One of us would say an idea that we thought was good and then someone else would add to that idea. We got everyone to bounce ideas around until we found one that was good. It also helped if we were all exited to do our poem and we would feed off the energy of everyone else. Even if one person was off that day then there were enough people in our group to pick that person up.Teamwork was very important to this project. You don't feel as stupid if you are doing something as a group. That is how our teamwork worked.
I enjoyed this project very much. I thought it was interesting and it got me to work with people I wouldn’t normally choose to work with. I like the time we got to practice our poems. My group had some problems memorizing and learning the choreography, but with the time we had we were able to get it down just in time for the team day we had, which by the way I thought was fun. I liked how each day we worked on tongue twisters and did exercises to help us with our pronunciation better. I enjoyed how each day you told us to add a new terminology rather than just telling us to do it all at once. I also liked all the different types of poems there were and how each group had their own way of turning their poems into something original.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I didn’t like about this project was not being able to read the poems before choosing which one we would do. I was glad we got to at least choose them, but I didn’t like the flow or the sound of the poem. If I were able to have read the poem beforehand I would not have chosen it. Rather than letting us choose from a list of the titles, I think you should put the poems out spread out on a table or in a packet. Then let each group go through the packet and choose a poem.
My teammates were not the most willing to work as a team in the beginning. I was the group leader and tried and tried to get everyone to pitch ideas and give their opinions. Unfortunately, the first few classes were unproductive, but after a few classes we started to work together and had fun with the project. As an exercise to get people’s energy up we would do jumping jacks. This was fun and helped us sound more energetic or happy. Then my teammates started working hard at memorizing the poem and the choreography once we realized we had to perform for the whole green team. I was proud of everyone in my team for quickly leaning everything. In conclusion this project was a lot of fun. The incoming 8th graders will greatly enjoy it just as much as I did.
things that i liked about this project. i liked that we were able to take a boring poem that none of us would of liked to read on stage and make it sound intresting. i also liked that we got to customize the poems how ever we wanted to make us want to read them. The idea to add coreography to the poem to make the audience pay more atention to the people on stage.
ReplyDeleteThe things i did not like about this project was we had to present on stage. Most people are shy when it comes to presenting on stage and i think that it just made them more nervous. Well it just made me more nervous im not sure about anyone else. I also did not like that we had to do so many things to the poem. we should have been able to pick from a few of the things we had to do to the poem not use all of them at once.
i hated poetry. It never made any sence to me and i just never liked it but after doing this project it gave me a second look on poetry. I learned it could be fun if you look at it the right way as we did in the project. When you add creative aspects and coreography it can be fun and enjoyable.
What I like the Precision Poetry Drill Team is that Poems are either short or long paragraphs. My Poem was We Wear the Mask by Paul Lawrence Dunbar. The poem is about how they mask their emotions into them and they all did. I masked my emotion when I missed a shot in Basketball and I pretended I was having fun. And my partners were Lucas Vieira, Brain Martin and Cameron Stuart.
ReplyDeleteNext, What I don’t like is when my partners argue that they want but not me. My ethics showed them the path a little but sometimes it doesn’t work out and they still argue. Usually we read when Mrs. Tougas is here. But sometimes she’s not here and we had to read on our own. The difference is that we read on our own and when my helper’s here or not.
The ways I want to change for 9th Grade is that Poems should be longer than our poem. The Precision Poetry Drill Team is really fun because I wish I would want to watch them perform next year. As for Mr. Andree, I thank him for my support and had a great time on the Green Team. I would believe next year that it would be really cool if I can visit my school someday. This project is very fun and I hope I can help make the project up for next year.
I enjoyed the creative process. This as well as the lack of controlling of ideas. I think it was great having a poem thats easy to work with. The performance in front of the whole team to show off was fun. Finally the cake was great.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I didn't like the tounge twisters. They were tourturous. I also don't like how we stopped at performing in front of the green team. We should have performed in front of the whole grade! Also it would have been better with props. Props make everything better.
My favorite specific moments is when stephen said by mistake would that first world bared now to the word damn it god. We all laughed. Also we kept saying it [not during practice or rehearsels]. He also said another funny mistake but its not suitable for school.

ReplyDeleteOne thing I liked was the presentations done by the other groups. I also liked the poems that were chosen by Mr. Andree for us to learn. I liked how we could practice in class instead of having to do it for homework. My favorite part of the poetry unit was getting a piece “poetry cake” that Mrs. Modlowski made.
I didn’t like the group that I was in because there was too much fooling around. I think the tongue twisters were not helpful but they are hard to forget. Having to get up in front of the whole team was not my favorite thing to do. After we performed in front of the Green Team I didn’t like having to go back and sit with my group.
If I had to do this project again I would pick a different group. If I was Mr. Andree I wouldn’t have the presentations in front of the whole Green team but just in front of the class. Memorizing the poem was not a big problem. Maybe if the poem had been longer it could have been more difficult. Maybe next year the hours of the poetry unit could be cut down.
This was a great project. We were able to understand how to say poetry in many ways and some of us now dislike poetry even less. I liked how much practice time we were given because my group needed alot of practice. I also liked how we were given a list of poems to choose from instead of people fighting over a poem that they really like to a poem nobody know.
ReplyDeleteWhat i didnt like about this project was how we had to add body strikes, and movement because i was more focused on the movement then the actual poem. I also didnt like how we had to perform in front of the green team because my group was unprepared and we made a fool of us.
Something positive that happened to my group was that we memorized the poem within the first 5 classes and we didnt need to look at the poem. Something fun that happen was that we learned how to say a poem more then one way and had a fun experience.
Throughout this poetry project there were many things that i liked. First, i found being able to pick our partners was really helpfull. Choosing who we got to work with made everything a little easier because we could team up with people who we knew we would work well with. I also liked how everyday Mr.Andree would add on something we had to do to our poem instead of giving them to us all at once. This made it seem like a little less work and made the project less stressfull.
ReplyDeleteAlthough i really liked working on this project there were some things that i didnt like. Having to choose a poem based on its title was a little nerve racking. This meant that you had no idea what your poem would be like or even if you would understand it. I also thought that the role palying was un-necissary. The people in most of the groups did equal amounts of timing, writing and leading anyway. Finaly, at times i found it unfair that the leader was held responsible for other group members mistakes.
Overall, i found this project to be really fun. It not only made me look at poetry an entirely different way but it also made learning and working with friends so much more fun. I really enjoyed the big performance at the end where we were able to watch everyone els and show off our own hard work. This poetry project was deffinaly my favorite project this year. Im certain that the 8th graders next year will love it as much as we all did.
I liked this project for many reasons. First of all, I liked how we got to pick the people we wanted in our group. We all worked very well together and nobody had to work harder than the rest of us. At first moving into this poetry unit seemed like it would be boring. Doing the drill teams made poetry interesting and different. I also liked the fact that we had a lot of time to work on it and practice our poems. And my favorite part was the cake that Mrs. modlowski made for us to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYou could have let us look at the poem besides picking on the poems title. You should change is that if one person messed up you should not take points off of the other people who did what they were supposed to? I also thought that the tongue twisters didn’t help at all because they were just hard. I didn’t like the big performance either because it was kind of scary.
This project has made me ONCE again dislike poetry because it embarrassed again like in 5th and 6th grade. I wouldn’t do the big performance next year because it could make the kids nervous and other kids will make fun of those kids as has happened this year when kids have messed up people made fun of them.
This project really surprised me when we got assigned to it. I was put into a group in which I thought we wouldn’t work well together. Turns out, we worked great together on this project! I didn’t think I liked poetry until we did this project. I improved on not being afraid of getting up on stage in front of a whole team. I really liked the echoes and the choreography; it tied into our poem very well. I got really nervous when we picked the poems though. I thought we were going to get a poem that was 2 pages long, and we wouldn’t be able to memorize it.
ReplyDeleteWhat I didn’t like about this project, was when we went on stage, and did some crazy stuff like screaming and getting on our knees. It was a little embarrassing. I also didn’t like how we didn’t know the author when we first picked our poems. Also I felt as if we messed up during the performance, we wouldn’t get a good grade.
During our teamwork, there would be days where everyone would get distracted (including me) and we would waste valuable practicing time. There were also days where my group would spend the perfect amount of time practicing, and days where everyone would start arguing, and we would get off topic, and yell at each other. In the end, we just laughed, and kept going. This project was fun, and a good lesson about poetry.

ReplyDeleteI liked alot of things about this exersize. i liked the fact that we could take a poem and remix the way we liked. the group part of the exersize really helped while doing this. The exersize really brought some people more closer, because we had to trust other people to say the right things at the right time. The exersize maded poetry fun, befor this exersize i hatewd poetry.
I didnt like how some of the people in my group always goofed off. That made the exersize extremly hard, because as the leader of the group i had to continuously try to get them on task. The exersize was also extremly hard because adding two or three thing each class to the poem the poem papers got really messy. The poem project also had alot of your own work without supervision.
Our group had alot of funny people so that helped us get throw the day. The group aspect helped give me alot of i deas for the poem too. the peom teams were also really fun to watch and present. the poem project was one of the most fun projects we have done all this year. I hope there are more projects like this at the end of the year.
Over all this project was very fun. This poem idea gave me a great experiance on literature. I liked Poetica Dramatica Unit, because I never would have thought to make a simple poem like we had and make it into one amazing, roaring poem with echos and fade outs and all that fun stuff. Even though i was not present for the Green Team Presentation I still had a lot of fun creating and preforming our poem. Over all this Unit was fun and exciting and how we could pick our partners.
ReplyDeleteSome things I didnt like myself was how we had a poem ready for echos then yougive us another thing to add like fade outs and stuff so we had to change and move things around. I would change this by just giving out a rubric of what is expected of the poem and give a brief example of how to do that part of the unit. Another thing I didnt like doing was when we couldnt pick the poem we wanted and I understand that you can copy the people who have the same poem but i think you should have multiple copies of poems.
The thing i loved to do with my team was to practice. When we practiced we practiced hard and it always sounded good so it was nice to hear a Drill Team Poem made to perfection. It was also fun to have practice and room to move around and have space to work so I think it was a good idea to go into the Auditorium.
This project over all was really fun. It was a really great experience for me. I liked how we got to pick our partners. This help because i already knew we would look like fools so I wanted to go down with a group of fools I knew. Also i liked how we got to wear team uniforms. I thought thatwas really awesome.
ReplyDeleteI didnt like how we were given poems. I thought we should be able to write our own. This would make it more interesting for ourselves and the fans because it could be funny. Also I didn't like when we went in the circle and did the weird stuff. I think we should have done that with in our groups.
One thing that was really fun was going outside to practice. I thought we should have done that more. Also I thought that breaking in to the music room was fun. I thought that was awesome. Then when we got in there our group got one of those cool rooms in the back. All in all it was really fun.
I liked the poetey drill team it was fun. We got to exsperament with diffrent things during it. I liked how we practiced a bit on the stage with the mics because I would freak out if we had to do it in frount of the team.
ReplyDeleteI didnt like how we had to do the ecoes. Some of the poems didnt have places like mine Powers where it was hard to put and ecco or a chant. Also the swift swallow in the beginging I didnt like that poem in the hard to say. So i whould just not put it in unless if you want to challenge them. Over all I liked the project.
Well the positive thing that we had with my group is we shared ideas with each other. like I sayed to have an ecco in the begining but nick sayed to have it at the end of it. Then a fun part was at the end when we all had cake and went outside. We all just sat there in the sun.I think the kids next year will like the exsperience.
There were many things I likeed about the Poetry Drill Team project. One of things I liked was how we got to pick our own team members. Its easier to do the project if you know you can work well with the other people on your team. Another thing I liked about the project was being able to pick the poem. I liked how we got to make the poem however way we wanted it to be. Another thing I liked was how we got to add body strikes, shouting here and there, ect.
ReplyDeleteAlthough there were many things I did like about the project there are a few things I didnt like as much. I didnt like how we added something new each class. Like when one day we would work on chos and then the other day we would work on unisin lines. I think in the future you should let the kids do its all at once because i think it would have been easier that way. I also didn't like how we couldn't read the poems before we chosed them. I liked our poem but there were a few that when we were in the high school I heard and thought that poem would have been better.
One positive thing throught the project was at first our group didn't agree on anything. Then when we finally agreed on something we would keep agreeing. I was the team leader and to ee everyone agree on the things we were pitchin made it easier to finis an geta good grade on the project. I was happy with the group we had and one of the main reasons was because there wasn't any problems and if we argued it would be resolved real quick.
I really like this project. I like alot of things about this project. I like how we got to pick our groups. Also, i like that we got to add different effects to it. This project also helped me get over my fear of performing on stage. ALso, I like when you had us add stuff you took one day at a time. You didn't just throw it as us and told us to work on it all at once.
ReplyDeleteThere were some parts of the project that I did not like. For example, if one person in your group messed up everyone else in your group would get thrown off and the whole poem would be ruined. Also, I didn't like how we had different roles cause sometimes the leader would think they were in control of everything. The scribes rarely wrote anything done. The time keepers never did their job because you would always say how much time is left. Lastly, I didn't like how someone would be slacking off then it would bring everyone's grade down not just their's.
I never was a nig fan of poetry until this project. It really showed how interesting . poetry could be. Also, the big presentation in front of the whole team was alot of fun and it showed how hard people worked on this project. I think the 7th graders in coming 8th graders will like it alot and hopefully will work as hard as we did so they can perform it in front of the whole team.
Out of all the projects that we have done this year, i like this one the best. i like it because it came easy to me... and i didn't have trouble memorizing the poem. At first i didn't think that i would be able to memorize the poem, but once i kept practicing over and over i got it perfectly. Its stuck in my brain forever. I also liked that we were in the auditorium each day to practice. Being in the auditorium and going onto the stage to practice with the microphones helped me because i was used to performing on the stage. once it came to the performance day i felt like a natural poet.
ReplyDeleteIn this project there weren't too many things that i did not like. The only main thing that i didn't like, was that each day we were told one or two things that we needed to add to our poem. It wasn't mainly the adding two things that i did not i like. it was mostly that i wish we could have been able to know before hand what the two things that we would learn each day in class. A way to help this would be to make a chart for each student. This chart would tell us what we would do on everyday that we had class.
I liked my group for the poem project. I was friends with the three others that were in my group. there were times that we started to get annoyed with one another, but we got over ourselves and had fun. During each practice in class we were a little goofy and wouldn't pay attention all the time, but when it came to the final performance in front of the whole team, we were totally serious and did the best we could. We all had a great time! It was cool to be able to go to the high school auditorium for the final performance. Some people may think it was a little nerve racking to perform in front of the whole green team, but in my opinion; it was a great experience.
For this particular project i loved it so much! I had a great time doing this project with my friends. I like presenting our finished poem to the class on stage and not in the classroom. I learned how to think of how a poem is written and what it means. Working with a group was a lot more fun than doing this project by myself.
ReplyDeleteThere were very few things I didn’t like about this project. Each day you would give us a new assement to put into our poem and we wouldn’t know what was next to put in. I think you should have given us a hand out showing exactly what we were going to be doing. The first time we presented to the class in the auditorium you gave us suggestions what we could fix and make better. There might have been even more help if the student were able to give an opinion or another idea towards our poem.
Working with a group improved my work with others. As the leader in my group, my group did very well working together. We made the poem ours and not just one of are. Putting our ideas in to one made it a lot better than if we did it by ourselves. Our group was very nervous to present in front of the whole green team but we soon realized that we are all doing the same thing so when we hit the stage we loved it and enjoyed so much!
Very interesting project for me and other people. My favorite parts were when we made expressions and everyone else had to copy them. Another one was all the stuff we had to add. It made all the poems more interesting. And I liked how we were able to pick our own groups so we could work with someone we feel comfortable working with.
ReplyDeleteI didnt like how you were able to bring some mods outside and some didn't. It felt unfair to the ones that couldn't. It would be better if you could bring all the mods out when you can instead of leaving a few that can't. It also would have been better if we could have smaller groups because it would have felt better to be with people you wanted to be with and not have someone forced into your group. All you need is more peoms to pick from.
I thought it was funny when Stephen kept messing up. Whenever he did he would swear when he realized it. He tended to swear at the worst parts. It helped us get through the project because we would keep repeating it in our heads when that would happen and it made us memorize it better. I had a good group and i couldn't ask for a better one.
When I heard that we were going to have a poetry project that ran like a drill team, I was like "What the HELL???? An awful thing like poetry with a hardcore drill team, how can you do this to us Mr. Andree?" But after we got started and picked groups I wasn't feeling as freaked out. Picking a poem out of the list was pretty neato too, because it was fair game and everyone had as good of a chance as the next at getting the sacred 'Short poem!' I mean, I was really nervous about the whole performance thing in front of the team, but it was a bit overrated in difficulty. We got 13 class periods to work at a steady, less stressful pace, giving us confidence, which we REALLY needed. Plus, spreading out all the requirements as we went was really good, since it was like a timeline in a way that wasn't really there, but at the same time it was. Keep using those Dr. Seuss tongue twisters, because it brought back my inner child. Overall, sick project MR. A!
ReplyDeleteNow for the bad stuff... The project was good, it's just, well poetry. I know you can't really avoid doing poetry, since you're an English teacher and all, so I'll give you a break there. I guess you can tell why our team was called NOetry. But when we picked the poems, Mod 7 was the last class that had English that day, so like half of the poems that were on the list we had to unwillingly cross off. I had my eyes on that Boondocks poem, and when it went I wanted to tear out my hair! Also, if one person in our group messed up by mispronouncing a word or something, it affected us ALL! I didn't like that because we can't baby everyone, its a project that you need to depend on others as well as yourself to do well. I hope you consider my points.
Before this project, I thought poetry was meant for low life people and was a crappy pointless subject. Now after this project, I've gotten out some stereotyping issues and give in to saying, poetry isn't THAT BAD. Happy? Just kidding, its okay. But my views on poetry went from 'sucks' to 'sucks much less' on the suckometer (makes sense if you've seen the quit smoking commercials.) This project was well designed and I hope you do this for future projects in the years to come.
There were many thing that I liked about this project. One thing that I liked about the project is picking our partners. I liked that because we knew that we could work with. Another thing that I like was that we got to get out of the small classroom and instead got to go to the auditorium, the band room, and even outside. The other thing that I liked was that you got to pick the poem that you wanted to resite to the class. I liked that because you got to think what you like and what you think would be intresting to the class and yourself.
ReplyDeleteI really didn’t have that much stuff that I didn’t like. The thing that b0othered me the most is that we did not get as much practice time because it was either a x-mod day or we would read something or watch something when we could have been practicing. I did not like that because I feel like it could have been some better performeces then what we had. I did not like the interruptions that we had to stop. I did not like that because that would of given a little more time of practice we should of just added them when we were ready.
There were a lot of things that I thought worked out or was fun in our group. I liked that we could work together and not get in a lot of arguments in our group. The fun part was being with some of my best friend and that we had some laughs. Even though that we would goof off when it was time to get back to work we would get right to work. We worked good together and all got along.
This poetry unit was very interesting. There were many things that I liked about it. One of things I liked was how we got to pick our own team members. I felt that it was easier, because we already have an idea on who we work well with. I also liked the exercises we did. Whether it was working on pronunciation with Dr. Seuss, or watching movie and TV show clips.
ReplyDeleteOne of the few things I didn't like was how when someone would mess up, or miss their line and we would all just start laughing and get off track. It was hard to focus, and sometimes, we would get distracted, are start watching the other groups practice. Also. how everyday, we would have to add something new to the poem, sometimes, my group would still be trying to touch up the task from the day before and fall behind.
I feel like this project was more enjoyable because I was friends with everybody in my group, and we got along and had fun practicing. I think that we all thought at one point, that we would never be able to remember our lines, or the poem at all. I think were surprised how we did once we did it in front of the class. Overall, I think this was a great project.
I have to say, when you first told us about the project i didn't think i was going to like it. but after you explained the project and that we could pick our own groups, and choose our own poem, and create so, it made it come to life almost. it was a intresting way to teach us about beats, echoes, unison lines... etc. When we first got the assignment i thought because we would be repeating the lines and going from one stanza to another, it would be difficult to memorize (ecspecailly sense we wouldn't be able to have our papers or coreography steps with us for the finale) but, once i got the original poem memorized, it was easy to fit the echos, and unisin lines, and all that stuff where it needed to go and where it would fit in well. i also, think it made a huge impact on our poems and the way we sounded when we would practice in the auditroium almost everyday it helped us make sure that if we wher e"yelling" without the mics. then if we were to quiet we would know to speak up when we presented.
ReplyDeleteDuring this project, i didn't not like anything, i mean i would change a few things but, in total it was a good, fun project. For example, instead of telling us to practice at least three times that night (knowing that some wouldn't practice) maybe you could assign us songs, or movie clips that relate to our poem almost. Another thing is instead of giving us, the coice of picking the poem, instead you could let us read the poem the day before we pick and then we initail or name next to the poem that sounds best, and also, it isnt really fair for the people that have english last, and has to be assigned a poem that you wouldn't want.
The part i liked most about this project was being able to work with partners that we wanted to work with. also, being able to perform infront of our team at the end was fun too. although our group bickered over stupid things like steps and coregraphy and the way we are supposed to pronunce things, also, saying someone elses line when your not supposed to aggravated some people in my group but, besides that we did a great job overall with the coreography, unisin lines, echos, i thought in total that we all enjoyed this projet very much.
In the poetica dramatic unit there were many fun experiences and activities. I really enjoyed having to edit and personalize the poem that was chosen at random. I thought it was a good idea that the poem was randomly chosen without the student (us) knowing anything about it or who it was by. I realized how hard something is to choreograph and teach others the steps. But choreographing and teaching others only brought our group closer together all the last minute practices to pull it together made us closer. I liked how most decisions on the poem were left up to us they were not, not allowed by you. (Mr. Andree) All the examples of music got me to dissect all the music I currently listen to. I think the project was given a reasonable amount of time. The project over all was great and very enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteWith all the positives being said there are always some dislikes. I didn’t like that after we picked our groups other people could just be added into them. I also didn’t like that when someone didn’t do something they got away with it. I don’t think this was fair because it leave only a few people in the group forced to do all the work. I also didn’t agree with the fact that almost all the grade was based on the group and how the final presentation was completed. I think our grades should be more individual based on how much work each person puts into the group. The project was over all good.
This project made me see poetry in a new way. Before I just over looked it and didn’t care at all. I never took the time to appreciate the amount of time and effort is put into writing and performing poetry. Now I take the time to think about the words and the rhythm. I try and picture how the author wanted the poem to sound. For example the poem “We real cool” was said in so many different ways, it was internalized different depending on the person. My view on poetry has changed greatly.
This project was a very positive experience to this year, but it did have its faults. I liked a lot of this project and one of the things I liked was the practicing on the stage with the microphones. When you were practicing on stage with the microphones, you heard your poetry to see if it sounds good. It also helped you get used to being on the stage so you wouldn't be as afraid when you preformed. I also liked the decrescendos and the crescendos that put a suspence in it. Those are some of the things I liked.
ReplyDeleteThere are things I did not like. For instance, I did not like the simultaneous contrasting lines. It was very hard. When you listened to it, it was confusing. The choreography was difficult to assemble together. Plus when your up on stage, sometimes you forget the choreography and look dumb up there and you do not know what you are doing. So there are some negative parts to this project.
I learned in this project that poetry is not has dumb as some people think, it can be deep, loud, quiet, and have a fun rhythm to it. One fun thing about this project is that when my group wasn't loud enough when we were practicing or we were tired or had no energy, we did exercises like jumping jacks to get our energy up. Plus the choreography had more life to it. It made the poem come to life, but not in all poems needed choreography, it just wasn't the type of poem. All in all, I liked this project very much, but it had it's faults.
There were many positive aspects of this project. One if the things that I really enjoyed in this project was the fact that we were able to choose our own partners, so in that case you can pick people you trust, and not end up with a bunch of idiots. Another thing that I thought was very helpful in the project was the fact that each little act you added to the project wasn't all in one day it was spread out. That certainly helped me have plenty of time to complete this. And the last thing that I liked about the project was that we preformed in front of our class, for the classmates and not in front of the team, for the real grade.
ReplyDeleteThere were things though that I disliked in this project. One was acting it out in front of the team. That was a little scary, because there is always one clown in the audience trying to make you laugh, and then after that it all falls apart. Another thing that I didn't like about the project was when we went on the sage and made all those funny sounds, that really freaked me out.
The thing that really made me want to do this project was my group members,Good, Hughes, and Lizotte. We worked as a team the whole time, there was never a time when one person was doing more than the other, and we never fought except for the time I tripped over the chair during rehearsals and Good walked out of the room for a "breather". The poem made our project especially easy. The poem Motto, was a really cool poem to act out and was perfect for the people that were in our group. As a whole I would recommend you schedule this project into next years classes, because I think they would really enjoy it.
I liked many things in this poetry project. One thing that I enjoyed was the thing when we went on the stage and said and jestured random things. This was good because being on the stage made you get over your stage fright kind of because it was on the stage and made you feel more comfortable doing something out of the ordinary. Another thing that I liked was the examples that you showed us in films like stripes or Buffy. This made it seem like what we were doing wasn't too out of the ordinary for productions. Another thing that I enjoyed was the tongue twisters to help with pronunciation. one last thing that I enjoyed was when we " free roamed" and expressed the emotions. This is because mainly it helps with getting over the giggles but it doesn't really help with ddisplaying emotion.
ReplyDeleteThough there were aspects of this project that I enjoyed there were also aspects that I disliked. One aspect that I disliked was the sheer number of things that you made us do to the poems. It became over whelming on the tenth thing we added. If you do this project again I suggest you make the number of things you add less. Also you should let the prime next year choose there own poem. Some of the poems you assigned just weren't fair. You could improve on these things.
This project was an eye opener to poetry to me. Just kidding. Poetry simply isn't my cup of tea. This project really hasn't changed the way I look at poetry. I know new things to add to poetry etc. But poetry it's self is still pretty dull to me. I'm more of a cat in the hat type of poetry reader. I always thought most poetry is dull and this has concluded that fact. No matter what you do to poetry it's dull in general. Well the things you had us do to poetry didn't make it more interesting. A poem has to be appealing to the reader in the first place which brings me back to you should let people next year pick there own poems. Hope this has helped.
The project I thought was overall, good and hard. I liked That we got each component to the poem at different times. That helped a lot because instead of focusing on all of them and getting each part of the poem in, you had us focus on a different part each day. That made it easier to finish such a complicated project. Also I Liked that it wasnt like a real poem. It was fun and energetic. I thought it was good that we could present to the class and we got to practice more before we presented to the green team. I liked the examples before we started the practicing alot.
ReplyDeleteThere weren't many things at all that i didnt like throughout the project. I thought the warm-ups were a waste of practice time. Also i think that we as a group should be able to choose the poem we read out if a selection. Also it was hard to practice because if one person messes up the whole group messes up too. our group over thought the whole project so it ended up being really complicated. I thought our poem was bad to begin with.
If I were to do this project again I would practice more at home and stay focused and on task more at school. Also i would need the groupmore focused less worried about the little things and think about how the project sounded ind the end.
There were many things I liked about the drill team poetry project. I really liked the end result it made the whole struggle worth while. I liked how you fond a movie, tv show, or song to go along with all the requirements. I liked practicing with the mikes at most rehearsals it made us less nervus knowing people have already heard our poem be fore we performed.
ReplyDeleteThere were also many things I didn’t like. I think you should have given us all of the requirements before we stared the arraignment so we wouldn’t have to change what we already started. I also think you should have given us more time to practice with the mikes. For example only going every other day from the beginning with double the time. When chousing the poems I think it would have been helpful to no the authors to help us make a wise chouse because you are stuck with this poem for a long time.
This project has completely changed my outlook on poetry. I don’t see it as a chore I see it as a song that you have to find the music for. The music is whatever you feel when hearing it and everyone has a different rhythm and song to the poem. I feel that the author doesn’t have to have the same outlook on the poem then you do. It could have a completely different meaning to the author then to you and something even more unique to another person.
At first I didn’t really like this project but in the end I thought it was really cool. The videos we watched; like Buffy, and the songs, were helpful to understand the different elements we had to add to the poem. It was also very helpful to only add one or two elements at a time because even that way it was pretty confusing, but much more bearably than if we had added them all at once. I thought that we had a great amount of time to practice our arrangements and add to them. This unit helped me with speaking with microphones since I didn’t have much experience with them before. I really liked the presentations with the whole team, although I was very nervous about performing for everyone. It was cool to see all the different poems and how some of them even sounded like a song. And of course, the party we had afterwards was great, especially the cake.
ReplyDeleteThere are only a few things that I didn’t like about this project. For example, I might get rid of the thing when we went on stage and repeated weird noises. Mostly, this made us laugh more, and made some people get silly and crazy. Also, I would take the classes outside more (depending on the weather) since that helped my group be louder, since we were really quiet. Lastly, I didn’t think it was fair that some people had poems that were only about two stanzas long, while some were more than a page. I think this bothered other people too, so you may want to try to pick poems that are all about the same length next year. Overall, I think that next year’s eight graders will like this project and that with a few changes; you can make the unit even better.
This project changed the way that I think about poetry almost 360 degrees. I used to think it was boring, and too short to say much. Now I’ve realized that even short poems can tell you a lot, especially if they’ve been rearranged and performed by a group. I actually enjoyed listening to poetry for once because of the choreographed and song-like performances. Another part of this project that was weird but cool, was when the team teachers all did a presentation for us. It was nice that for once, the teachers were nervous and had to present to the kids.
I think you could help them with simultaneous contrasting lines next year by comparing it to cannons. For example, if you sing “Black Socks” and have groups start at different times, there would be multiple simultaneous contrasting lines, and maybe some unison lines. You could have them sing it or find a recording, but either way I think it could help them improve. Hope this helps.
This section was fun and an educational way to read poetry. It helped everyone get used to perform on stage and in front of people. Also, it was fun performing and having a team day. The experience to perform on the high school stage was nerve racking but exciting. Overall, it was a good experience.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t like a couple of things about this assignment. I think we should have practiced on the high school stage so we would get used to the stage. Also, the lights on stage were very bright and it was hard to see, if you turned them down for next year it would help the students. One other thing you could change is after the performances are video tapped you could make a CD for everyone, or let us see our performance in English class.
I think this experience was good for our confidence on stage. It allowed us to have fun on stage and with poetry. After doing this I think of poetry differently. Great job, and good idea.
At the end of the day i really enjoyed working with you and the Rhyming Rebals (my drill team) on this project. One thing I enjoyed was when we got up on stage with the whole class and you started off saying a random word and everyone had to repeat it then someone else starts another one and so on. Another thing i enjoyed was when you had examples of other drill teams preforming the task you were giving us that day. An example of this is when we had to do overlapping lines you had a poem/ song with that in it. A third thing that i enjoyed was having our whole group get up on stage and recite our poem while other groups kept on working. When i did this it helped me get over the nerv of being scared and messing up.
ReplyDeleteAside from the things i liked about this project there were also some things i disliked. One thing i didnt like was we didnt get to rehers enough on the stage. My group had only gotton up to rehers on the stage about three times. If we could have gone up there maybe three or two more times i think when the real deal came we would have walked right up without a care. A second thing i didnt like was having only one person do the homework each night not everyone do it every night. If everyone did it everynight the next day in class your group could pick the best one or maybe take a little out of each.
Since we worked in groups we had some funny moments. One was when one person in the group would mess up. When this happend the rest of the group would stop and the person who messed up would be like.. "ohh i messed up!" This project has also changed how i feel about poetry. Before this project i used to think poety was just a bunch of boring words and that it was just stupid. Now i think it is fun and you can rip it apart to make it like a song. All in all i liked this project alot even though there was some parts that i didnt enjoy. Thanks!
Overall, this project was really enjoyable. It was very interesting to learn how a lot of music like Run DMC is structured. It was very fun learning from our mistakes together with my group because it caused a lot of laughs. It was very challenging, but that is a good thing because it felt like a huge accomplishment once we perfected it. Now every time I hear unison lines, solo lines, underlying beats, etc I will think of this project.
ReplyDeleteOne of my complaints that I have is with our poem. It was very short, so we had to repeat our poem multiple times through. This ended up getting very confusing with all of the different things we had to add combined with multiple read-throughs. Another thing I didn't like was how we had to present to the whole team. I felt that was kind of unnecessary. It added a lot of stress and was not good for people with stage fright.
I think that this project made me understand poetry a little more. It can be fun to have a group of people working on it to present it in a unique way. I never knew that so much thought went into music and music videos until this project. I have always hated poetry, but I realized that there are many different kinds of poetry. You can also manipulate it to make it unique.
There were many things about this project that I liked. First of all, I liked how we had the perfect amount of classes to practice. At first, I thought this project would be impossible. I also never understood poetry, but this project helped me tear poetry apart piece by piece so I could actually understand it. I also liked how, on the days we practiced, we were able to go onto the stage and practice with microphones, to see how we sounded and if we were loud enough, because my group was really quiet. Finally, I liked how my class got to pick poems first, because it was my first class, and how we got to pick it based on only the titles, so it would be a surprise, and you wouldn’t pick one just because it was short, without realizing it was really confusing.
ReplyDeleteAlthough this project had many positives, there were some things about it I didn’t like. There was the groups. I didn’t like how we had to have four people in our group, because it made it confusing. And, I had only two, so you paired my group up with two people I didn’t really enjoy working with. Also, I didn’t like how you gave us so little time each class to add things, like echoes and other things. You would “set us loose” to add them, but then make us come back to talk which would waste time. And, also about adding things, each day when you told us to add different things, it would be confusing because we had to change so many things just to add that one thing in, and my poem was so crowded with words you could barely read half of them.
I hated poetry so much. I thought poems had no meaning, and if they did, I could never figure it out. They made absolutely no sense to me and I had no idea how to get what they were trying to say. But, thanks to this project, I know how to read a poem and think about it so I know what its trying to say so I can learn from it. This project didn’t make me absolutely love poems, but at least understand them.

ReplyDeleteDuring this project i learned a few new things to my idea of poetry. When you showed us those movie clips of STRIPES and BUFFY and the rythem beat to RUN DMC. I learned differnt dynamics in voice and echo. Having this project with a freely chosen group was even better since it would probably be very hard to perform all the precisions solo. All the time givin to us was long and gave everyone enough time to correctly display the poem on stage. as we got the poem we got to disect it to what we wanted to sound like instead of the original tempo and precisions.
What i didnt like about this project was the changes in precisions every day of work. It would have been better under my opinion to have all annunciating and using pronunciation drills every other day because there was a large amount of time on this being spent on pronunciation and annunciating. We could have been using other skills to create a better constructed performance on stage and in practice.
Overall, this project was a fun and fantastic expierence thank you Mr.Andree for this project. :)
Throughout this project, there were many things I enjoyed. One of them was being able to read a poem and be able to change it around and/or add on to it. I found it interesting because it made the poem my own. Another thing was being able to work in groups and have other people's opinions. I mainly liked this part because it gave me more ideas to help out with the poem.
ReplyDeleteThere were a few parts of the project that I didn't like. Like, when we had to do the pronunciation exercises, I guess I found them a waste of time. Another thing I didn't like was the fact that we had to practice over and over and over again. After a while, it kind of got annoying because I couldn't get the freaking poem out of my head. Otherwise, the project was quite fun.
One thing that happened during our teamwork that was quite fun, was when we "snuck" into Mr. Farmer's room to practice. Mainly, because it gave us somewhere new to practice. Plus, there was no microphone that we would have to practice on in front of everyone. I was glad about that because, although we did get better, at first we weren't exactly that good.

ReplyDeleteThere were a lot of things in this project I enjoyed. What I enjoyed the most about the project is that we got to present it in front of the entire time. Most people didn't like it because of stage fright, but your going to have to do something like that sometime in your life. Another thing I liked about the project is we got to work with our friends and not random people. It wouldn't be as fun with random people. We also had a lot of time to practice and revise which was a lot of help. It wasn't too much help, but not too little. This project had a lot of positive things to it that should stay for the following years.
There was some things about this project I disliked. The poems were kind of boring. Next year I suggest more interesting poems. Another thing I would change is have seperate grades for each person. Some people messed up the poems and gave the people who worked hard and did a good job a poor grade. That isn't very fair. Those are some of things I'd change for the upcoming 8th graders.
Before this project I thought of poetry as slow and boring. I didn't see any point of it. After this project I thought of poetry in a complete different way. I now think of it as an interesting thing that can be put in any way. It can be upbeat, fast, have rhythme, slow, and fun. Everyone in my group worked hard and had fun, but at the same time was learning teamwork and poetry. This project was an amazing way to end 8th grade english.

I found the poetry unit really fun. I liked how we got to pick our own groups (this made the whole thing so much better than if we had been put into groups.) I also really liked the examples you gave us every day like the song from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the raps. This helped me understand what you wanted when you said a completely foreign term like contrasting lines or chants. I loved when we got to practice and perform on stage with the mics. It made the whole performance so much more fun and professional even though it was a little nerve-wracking. Last, I really enjoyed the day where we preformed in front of the whole team. It was so cool to be able to see how much work everyone else did and it was pretty great getting to show off in front of everyone. This unit has been a great learning experience for me because now I actually get poetry and enjoy it instead of dreading it.
I really did enjoy this unit so I don’t have a whole lot of things I didn’t like. I didn’t love not knowing what our poem was about before we choose it because I really didn’t like the poem my group picked that much. Maybe next year you could give them a short poem description instead of just the title. Hand out our summaries instead and than the future 8th graders could choose a poem on its content not its title. Anyways it’s what is inside the book that counts not the title. But I really did think this poem unit opened everyone’s eyes with poetry.
One thing that happened during my team experience that was both a learning experience and I admit maybe funny to other people was the leadership struggle in my own group. I think Michaela was a pretty good leader (not as good as I would have been but really who would be). I kind of learned how to be a part of a group not just the leader. I admit I fought it every part of the way and still was more of a vice-leader but I did learn. I became a lot closer to Darby and Michaela than I would have if I had been the leader and had been bossing everyone around all the time. I still bossed every one around but since Michaela had the final say I toned everything down a little. This poetry unit has not only opened my eyes into the wonderful world of poetry but I have also (kind of) learned how to be less of a leader and more of a friend.
While doing this project I had a lot of fun. I really liked working with poetry because I really enjoy hearing all of the different types of poems. This project was a great experience because I never knew that there were so many little things that you could do while reciting a poem, such as having solo lines and lines in unison, to make the poem sound better. I liked being able to pick our own team members while doing this, so that we felt more comfortable when we were on stage. I really liked the tongue twisters and warm ups that we did because they were a big help and showed us examples that we could use with our poems. My favorite part of this project was having the team day and being able to recite our poems for the whole team. It was also very fun going outside to practice and I think that you should do that more often with classes.
ReplyDeleteThere weren't very many things that I didn't like about this project. The only thing that I think should change is the poem selection. I think that more than one group should be able to do the same poem if they want to. Some kids that had English later in the day were stuck with what was left on the list and did not have a great selection.
I think that this project made a lot more people enjoy poetry and realize that it is not boring. I really liked the choreography we were able to do and that made the project fun for everyone. I think this was the best project all year! :)
This project helped me look at poetry a lot different. Before i thought it was all about rhyming but ive learned it doesnt have to be. I also liked that we had enough time to practice each day.i liked how you gave us a few things to work on each day instead of a paper with them all too.
ReplyDeleteThis project did have its faults though. My group was off tract alot during the class throughout the week. Also, that some of the poems were short but others were a lot longer. So try and use some poems that are not too small or too big. i didnt like that with whatever poem you chose was what you were stuck with. Maybe have one day to look it over and change if you need to.
This project overall has made me think a lot different about how i feel about poetry. I origonally thought that it was boring and useless in life. But now i see that you can really dig deep and find its true meaning to fully understand it.
This poetry unit was very fun. I had a lot of fun and positive things with it. I got to work on my memorization with was good because now i feel i can memorize things better now. Also i feel that i have more guts now to go up on stage in front of a lot of people. Also Mr.Andree has taught me that it is ok to take stupid risks sometimes because they can turn for the best!
ReplyDeleteWhat i didnt like is that you would say we had a certain amount of time which really felt shorter, I dont know if maybe you shortened the time or if it felt that quick. Also the whole group class exercieses i feel should be done more often because they are really fun and helps you get the giggles out. Also i think we should be able to have a little more class time rehersaing. What i thought you made a mistake in was with the examples of the things we had to add in that day i think you should have let us listen to more examples.
This project has made me like poetry 100000000 times better. I dont see it to be so dull and very boring anymore like i thought it was. Poetry is now fun to me. I can now take it in different aspects and now i also know how to play around with it. This project was very great Mr.Andree thanks for making Poetry soooooooo muchhhh fun!
This project was definitely and exciting one for me. One thing I really like were all the different activities that helped us prepare. I liked how we all had plenty of time at home and in class to get the feel for our poem and understand its true meaning. I liked how we got to pick our groups for a change, although at times this made it harder to stay on task; it made it easier to get together after school for practice. For me, the biggest thing I improved on was stage fright and learning to get on stage doing something I’m not so comfortable doing. I also learned how to look at a poems meaning and understand poems better by not just paying attention to what’s written on paper, but what the poem is really trying to say.
ReplyDeleteThere were only a few things of this project I didn’t like. I thought the roles in each group were confusing as where in some cases a person who wasn’t the leader ended up taking on the leader’s responsibilities. One other thing I thought you could change would be to hear some of the poems before we chose them. Choosing based on their title was a little challenging because we didn’t know if just by the title we could tell if it was easy or not. Relying on other people was also hard because in some groups we had people who acted different on stage the practice so everyone got points off if they messed up.
One positive time in our group was our first time practicing on stage. Not only did this help us prepare for our final grade but also helped us change some of our choreography. Where the first time we picked up the mikes we learned some of us are a lot louder and less shy then the others. At the end of our poem we were all supposed to get in a line and cross over each other but we learned the hard way that microphone chords wouldn’t be the best thing in this situation. This time also helped me out in the long run because it was my change to get our group to all work together as a team not to make the others laugh. Overall I loved this project and I think next years 8th grade would as well.
When I hear poetry, I think of rambling on and rhyming. When I hear Drill Team I think of buzz cuts and hundreds of push ups. When I hear cheerleaders I think of generally skinny and lots of spirit. The fact that Mr. Andree was able to combine these three completely different things and intertwine them in one project is impressive. One of my fondest memories from this project was when we first began. I remember thinking, “What the heck is this?” A poem with two columns and no stanzas seemed strange. I recall this so vividly because I am able to see how I changed in the way I look at this poetry from then until now. I think that the example poems were a great way to introduce this form of poetry to the class.
ReplyDeleteA part of this project that I did not like as much as others was the blocking. I did not feel that I had a good basis of knowledge on what blocking and poetry actually meant. I think that if we had more practice with this and possibly some small video clips, all the groups would have scored much more strongly in this category. Also, practice with the different kinds of speech in this poem would have been helpful as well. This could be achieved by the teacher saying silly statements and the class repeating those statements in the type of speech we were working on.
A specific problem that my group encountered was during rehearsals. The day before our huge presentation in front of the entire Green Team, one of our loveable and valuable team members seemed to be missing. Our group worked intensely that day to make sure that if Stevie did not show up on Wednesday, any part that he would have been saying, someone else would do. This brought our team closer together and made us stronger. Stevie did show up Wednesday and everyone in our group was immensely relieved and happy to have Stevie back and fully recovered.
Overall, I highly recommend continuing this project for many years to come, possibly adding sections.
I feel that in this project, Poetica Dramatica there were many positive experiences. One positive thing about this project was that we were put into groups and we weren't alone doing a poem. I also liked that we were able to chose our groups because then we are able to have more fun with the project. I liked how you showed us examples of things like echos and contrasting lines. I feel that by showing us and letting us hear these examples, it helped give us a better understanding of what we were required to do. I also liked that we had many different things that needed to be incorporated into the poem, such as echos, accent words, and especially choreography. By having to reach these requirements it helped guide us on what we had to do.
ReplyDeleteThere really isn't anything about this project that I thought that was an negative experience. But if had to say one thing that I didn't like it was when we got in a huge circle with the whole class and did silly and foolish things. Things such as yelling different things and doing different moves. Even though I didn't like doing this, I do have to admit that I feel it did help prepare us to present. I think this because it helps us realize that everyone is gonna look silly. It made me realize that to do a good job with this project you kinda have to do things even if they make you look stupid. To fix the problem maybe next year you could have students ease into doing the silly things. For example, you could maybe have them do those silly things and yelling things with their own groups and then eventually have them do it with the whole class another day.
Before this project, I never really realized how fun poetry could be. The project also changed my perceptive of poetry. I never really thought poetry was interesting and that it was enjoyable. But now I have realized how interesting it really is. One thing that happened during teamwork time that was fun and positive is when Jentelle, Madison and I were choreographing moves to our poem. This was fun and funny because we had to tryout different moves and ideas. It was funny because sometimes we came up with some ridiculous moves. It was also fun because our poem was about our hips so we got to do like little things involving our hips.
Overall, I found that this project was very fun and enjoyable. I had a great time and I would have to say that it was my favorite project we did this year.
This was a very enjoyable project. I liked how we got to work in large groups rather than the smaller groups that we usually work in. When i work in big groups the other people in the group modivate me and make me stay on task. I thought it was cool how we performed on stage because personally i do not like presenting in front of big audiences, and this kind of took away my fear of that. I also liked how we added new things to our poems everyday, making it more fun and challenging to do! When we free roamed around the room, i thought that it was fun becuse it caused us to get over those giggles that we all have, and really concentrate on our emotions toward other people.
ReplyDeleteAgain, this was a really good project, but there was some things that i did not really like about it. Even thought i said i liked how we added new things each day, i think you could add a little less things. It was a lot to put together and became very frustersting and overwhelming at times. Next year, you should make it so the students have to add less things to the poem. Also, even though it makes you get over your fear of stage fright, i think thr students should have a choice if they want to present it on stage or not. Next year if they do, i think it should be extra credit. Choreography was not the easiest thing to do while having to memorize a peom at the same time. For future reference, you should either say they do not have to memorize the poem or they do not have ti have choreography, their choice.
During our teamwork, my group just had a really fun time working together. Sometimes we would get angry with eachother for messing up or what not, but for the most part, we really worked together and made eachother laugh through it. This project did not really change how i look a poetry because I personally hate poetry and no matter what, it will always be boring to me. Nothing will ever change my thought about it, so it has nothing against this project because I really enjoyed it,
This project was a blast! Over all we learned all about poetry while having fun as well. There were several things i enjoyed about this project such as the interdependency it created between you and your group members. I never thought Stephen Gouin could be productive, but he added a livelyness to the group which ade things move quickly and smoothly. Heather Nadeau even provided the focus to the group when we got out of control (which rarely happend)
ReplyDeleteHowever, there were some things about this project i did not like for example the introductions. They took away from the suspense of when the poem was being read. If we know what the poem is about then whats the point of doing the poem?
One thing i think you should add to this unit is more video clips and less songs. I found that listening to the songs was annoying and that when i see someone actually doing something is sticks in my memory better but that could just be me.
there were many things i liked about this project. some of them are how we worked in groups. this allowed us to learn eafh others strengths and weaknesses in poetry. it also gave us a chance to maybe work with people that we have never worked with before. i also liked that we presented in front of the whole grade. at first it seemed a lil bit scary but once you did it you were so prepared for it that it turned into soo much fun.
ReplyDeletewhat i didnt like about this project was the fact that we didnt really know what our poems were about in the beginning. we shoukd be able to know what exactly we are going to present and everything about it. what i also didnt like was that what we had to the poem to meet the requirements of it. i think that we shoukd be able to remix it how ever we want to.
i used to think poetry was terrable and now i can somewhat deal with it. this project made we realize that a peom is interpperated in mire than one way. in fact it is viewed in many ways. it also made me realize that it can be funn if you are with your friends and you all look like idiots together.

ReplyDeleteThis project was one of my favorite things we have done throughout the school year. One thing I liked from this project is we got to pick our own groups and present with them. I liked this because if we didn't get to pick our groups I don't think we would feel comfortable presenting. Then when we present with a group we don't have as much stage fright as we would have if we were by our selfs. Another thing that i liked is the time amount you gave us. It was enough time to learn the poem and learn the dance with out having too much time left over. One last thing that I liked is how you gave/had us to warm ups before we went to practice with our groups. For example the Dr. Seuss tongue twisters and us listening to other poetry drill teams.
A few things that I did not like is how we had a group leader and a scribe and a time keeper.I felt like we should all have those jobs or switched. I felt like the group leader had the most work to do and the time keeper was pointless because you kept us updated for the time. Another thing that i disliked is how the final grade of our performance was all combined I think we should have gotten graded a little bit more individual. Last thing that I did not like was how we picked our poems. The last mod got like the final last choices and i think it wasn't fair. Maybe you could show all the mods the list then have them put there name next to it. Or have more groups perform one poem.
This project has given me a different look on poetry. At first I thought that poetry was just when you read a paper. I have learned that there are many different steps in poetry and its harder than it sounds and looks. I liked this project very much and i wouldn't change that much to it. It was fun watching all the other groups perform to see what there poem was like and to see hard they worked.
There are many things I liked about this project. One being, I liked how we got to work in groups insted of doing this project alone. This made me, along with many of other individuals, more comfortable and stable on stage infront of all our peersknow that we have our friends beside us, instead of doing presenting solo, making the chances of messing up greater. I liked how we got to pick our poems and groups as well. I think the amount of time you gave us was just the right amount to get us ready and organized for the big production. Also how we got to go down to the aututorium to practice and i liked how we got to practiced with microphones. I also liked how we had to meet all of those requirements that you gave us, for examlpe, rounds, echos, ets.it was awfly challenging, but not to the extent of ripping hair out. And last but not least, the last preformence in the high school aututorim, i think that is a great idea and you should deffinatly consider it for next years students.
ReplyDeleteThere are many things I liked very much about this project. Though along with the things I did like, there were some dislikes also. Something I did not find pleaseing for all was that the choosing of the poems. I thought that was kind of unfair for the last mod of the day because they got stuck with the misfit poems that were left in the dust. I would suggest you have kids think about the poems at home and then share which ones they would like to work with and then, the next day you could make some arrangments. Also, in the begging, you said to assign leaders and scribes and time keepers. Well sometimes somebody would not be doing their job and goofing off. Now I know that the leaders are suppose to be the ones setting them straight, but sometimes, they are also be the ones goofing off and then everyone in the group is goofing off and there would be only one person in the group who wants to practice or work but they couldn't control all of them. Then you have yourself a mess. I also dont like how everyone is graded as one because if one person doesn't have, for example, facial expressions and the whole rest of your group does, then its just like one person is drowning and he is taking everyone else down with him. You could also be one slaker in your group the brings everyone down in the dumps. So in the end, you group could get a bad grade, when not all of them desserved it.
After doing this project, I have been able the read poetry more clearly and understand the meaning much better then before. Overall, I think my team ended up doing a pretty nice job with everything. We memorized the poem quite well and I personally was not that nervous to get up on stage in front of every one. This was mainly because we have reheired it so many times before and we have it down. I think my group did a nice job with all of the steps Mr. Andree had us take/do to prefect our poem. At one point we actually moved ahead on our poem without knowing, because we were so ahead of the game. Over all, I really think this was a succes and you should deffinatly consited doing it next year for the incoming students.
I really like poems so when I found out that we were doing poems I was really happy. Poems can be challenging and they can also be very simple as long as you under stand them. Being paired up with friends was a good thing. I had fun because I was with Brian and cam and Josh. It was really fun and you shouldn't change anything.
ReplyDeleteI get extremely nervous when I have to perform in front of people. When we performed in front of the class I was like ok not so bad but when we had to perform in front of the entire green team I thought I was going to need new pants. But it was still fun and I don't think you should change anything.
I was working with friends
The poems were nice
We got to change around the poems and add new stuff to them which was cool
So thumbs up mr.Andree
I don't like poems but because it sounded different i was excited. the poems were good and had a lot of variety of nice and differently types of poems. i loved how the groups personalities fit the poems they were rehearsing. i also like how we had lots of time to try different things also how you added one new element to what we had to do to the poem.
ReplyDeletei did not like how we could only pick poems baced on what the title was. Also that you picked "US"to go fifth that was totaly not cool:(. Other than that it was nice.
this project made me love poetry for the first time. i think with all the bad things it has been the best project all year.
This poem was a great experience, Because you got to practice something you would never practice in your life probobly. My poem was very short compared to everyone elses poem so that was great. I liked how we got to work in a group of four rather than the smaller sized roups we occasionally work in. And I really liked how we got to practice in the auditorium with the microphones.
ReplyDeleteFor this poem I would have to say we had a little too much time to practice it. And I got really nervous before presenting on the stage when the whole green team was watching. But after my group finished it wasnt as bad as I thought. One major problem was that the leader in my group couldnt get everyone straight and organized. This resulted in goofing off and fooling around. And sometimes there is one person that messess everyone up all the time.
After we finished this poem I learned how to speak poetry much more effeciently. I got to socialize with a couple of my friends. I got to do a poetry drill team which I would never do in my life which I find really cool. So by far this poem was the best assignment youve gave us in class. And the best part is I can finnaly understand the meaning of poetry.
I have to say that this has been my favorite activity we have done this year. This was an extremely fun project. I like that everyday we had to add a new subject into the poem each day.For example the choreography(my favorite one) was the last thing we had to add into our poems. It was interesting to see everyone's ideas of what they should do for choreography. I also really liked that you had everyone on the team perform their poem on stage for their fellow team mates. It was fun to see all the different poem drill teams, and their different style of performing. I thought getting to use the auditorium to practice was really fun too! It was good to get out of your classroom for a little bit, not that i dont like it, but it was just good to get up and about.
ReplyDeleteWhat I didn't like was that we had to have a group with three to four people in it. I think we would work better with a two-voice poem. it would also be a lot easier to practice because we could go over the other person's house, but with four people, it is harder to find the time to get extra practice in. Also, it would be cool if your group that you are in could find a poem outside of school, and use that for their poem. So we could bring in a poem of our choice, instead of randomly picking a poem that we may not even be interested in. It is easier to perform a poem that you really like than to perform a poem that is not well suitable for the group.
I thought it was interesting to have Alex Carr in my group. I liked being in charge of him when he ran off, or did something stupid. for example, when he would run up on the satge to scare Matt( or try to, he really couldn't scare him) i would be able to yell at him to "get off the satge and get back to work." It was a very fun and interestin couple of weeks.
This project gave me a better outlook of poetry. i never would have thought of adding all the different types of lines that you told us to into a poem. I didnt think that a poem was as interesting to perform in front a crowd as it was these couple of weeks. Thank you Mr. Andree!!
This project was a lot of fun! There were many positive experiences that came out of it and i liked a lot of things about it. I really liked the amount of time we hade to practice and to prepare to preform it. I enjoyed how we would bring different things into our preformance each day like the rhythem, facial expressions, chorus, and choreography.Another thing i liked was how you showed us examples like the poem "We real cool."
ReplyDeleteI didnt really not like anything about it. The only thing that made me nerouse was how i we all had to rely on eachother to make sure we wouldnt mess up becuase if one of us messed up, it would affect all of us. I really enjoyed the project and everything about it.
I think this was a great thing to do. It was tough during some parts but in the end we all did well. Now, i have been able to read poetry and understand it much better and realize the meaning of it. A lot of positive things came out of this project. Our group did really well memorizing the poem, adding moves, figuring out a rhythem, staying on task each class, helping eachother, and making sure that we have it down. It deffinetely has made me not so affraid to get up and preform infront of a big crowd. I think this project helped many kids in a lot of ways and it was a sucess and i think that the 7th graders soon to be 8th graders would enjoy doing this project.
During this project I believe there was many positive and negatives aspects. For example, some of the positive aspect I enjoyed was being able to make it your own. By being able to add your own ideas really made this project your own. Another positive aspect I enjoyed was being able to present it to the whole green team. By doing this really made you try to do your best so you don't mess up in front of your friends. Also, I enjoyed having different ways you could make your poem really "pop." By having all the ways to edit your poem like contrasting lines, solos, body strikes and many more. I liked not knowing what we would add the next day, it kept you looking foward.
ReplyDeleteThere isn't just positive aspects to this project. I had some negative reasons to not like this project that I hope you would edit for next year. First, I didn't like how long it took because I got sick of saying my poem , i bet i was saying it in my sleep. I also didnt enjoy the fact that we didnt know what the poem was about when we chose it, although it does add effect you should give each a poem a little summary so that they can enjoy the topic they were given. Finally, I didnt like when we used the micrphones that we only got to do some of our poems. I think that every group should get atleast a whole class to be able to use mic's because when i got up on stage for the final preformance I wasn't to fimiliar with the microphone.
This was by far my favorite project of the year. My mot favorite part was being able to present it to the green team. This was a good way to spend the half day. Also being able to make this poem you own really made you connect with what you are working with. For future prefrences, allow more time to practice with the micrphones and give a short summary before allowing students to pikc their poem.
The poetica dramatica was probably the best project we have done all year. I like how we got a chance to finally get up from our seats and move around. Also much more acting was involved, and there are not many classes that have that opportunity. Plus, the chance to work in groups was even better, because we got to learn more about poetry while having a grand old time with your friends. I definitely think about poetry in a different way now.
ReplyDeleteSome bad things about the project was that we had to include all the steps to make it a drill team performance. I mean of course you need to do different sounds and choreography. But some poems would probably sound better without every single attachment. Also that we did not get a chance to review what the poem was like before choosing it. Of course thats part of the fun... not knowing what you have until you receive it. But I am sure some groups didn't appreciate each poem they HAD to deal with and could not switch.
This project made me think a lot different about poetry. I was never one to hate poetry, and i always thought it was fun to come up with. But the drill team's certainly brought a different perspective to my attention. It made poetry not only more fun, but it changed it around and almost brought music and different styles! They could be brought out and shown by each individual. Thank you for doing something different in this English class, I am also glad we got to present with everyone to show off our "somewhat" talent.
The Poetica Dramatica: Poetry Drill Teams assignment was one of my favorite assignments this year. I liked how we could really go anyway with the poem. The first day we chose our poems we had no idea that they would turn into such intricate pieces. If any other group had gotten "Yes" I'm sure it would sound very different. Also, when you first told us we were doing poetry, I thought back to sixth grade when our teachers would make us choose a poem and memorize it and present it by ourselves in front of the class. I liked how we got to add our own flair to our poems and got to work with other people. This assignment gave me a whole new view on poetry.
ReplyDeleteA few things I didn’t like is how we broke it down by day. I feel like we had too much time to work on each thing we added and that usually we finished early and went on to adding a new aspect to the poem. Another thing I think would have been cool is if the groups could have been bigger or smaller so we could really do some interesting echos and contrasting lines. I also think if we had just a little bit more time our poems could have been really amazing.
This unit was great because I had fun with Tayler and Kristen while I we were making our poem. I remember how excited we would get when we thought of a cool new contrasting line or echo to add. Also, I remember how cool we thought I was when we finally decided that the last run of the poem, Tayler and Kristen would be walking back and fourth while the echoed the last line of each stanza. This assignment really made me appreciate poetry.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this project intotal. one of the things i really liked was the fact that we were able to work in groups. the fact that we could work in groups was good so it made it easier and enjoyable. The next thing i enjoyed was the fact we could practice in the auditorium. i liked working in the auditorium because it gave us room and privacy to work. The next thing i liked was the day we spent at the highschool. Even though one of our group members left us well we were there it was still a fun day and we got to see all the other groups and the cake was great! it was a really fun and enjoyable project.
Altough i mentioned i liked it in the first paragraph there was a few aspects of working at the highschool that i didn't like. well it being a big place one of our group members got scared and decided to not go so it made it hard to present. Another thing i didnt like was the fact that of it getting recorded and will be uploaded to your website. this also provided pressure to the already stressful situation. but for the most part i really enjoyed this project and didn't dislike many aspects of this project.
This project made me take a harder look at poetry. Poetry i looked at as a boring subject that you have to do in english. but after this project i realized it's not to bad. this project took a always boring thing and spiced it up to an enjoyable project. And from now on through my highschool and college years i will look at poetry from a different aspect.
This poetry unit was very interesting and fun. I liked how we got to pick the poem based on the title, which ever sounded interesting. I was also happy we got to pick are groups with more than 2 people per group. I also liked how much time we had to make this project perfect and if we didn't do well on the 1st attempt you let us do it again and how if we just had a bad day when we performed, we got to perform again in front of everyone.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like how we had to wander to different people, maybe someone you don't even talk to, and we made weird faces to them and it was really ackward for me. I also didn't like how we had to perform with everybody on the team there. I think we should record it in class and then watch it at the end of the year if thats possible. I also didn't like how we didn't get to use props for performing. I did like how we chose the poems by the title, but you should try to put more choices. Once your group picks the poem, they should be able to read it over and if they don't like the poem they should get to chose only once more.
Now i realized how fun poetry could be. Before this project I thought this would be the worst project, but a few days in it got fun and now it means something to me. This project made me more creative with almost everything I do. I also realized during this project that you don't have to over think anything, it is easier to stay simple
The poetry drill teams by far was the best project we have done this year. Some positive aspects about this project that i liked the most was just being able to work with people that you know and your friends that can help you and encourage you along the way to make things better that you are doing wrong. With people that you know and trust on the side of you doesn't make you embarrassed or feel like you are hurting the presentation by messing up. Being able to give us freedom with the way we wanna go with the project really made us focus more on how we wanna be able to have more fun and create different things that made the poem interesting. Doing this project gave me some work that we do in school that is actually fun and let us get up and move around. This project let me see poetry in a whole new way other than just rhyming boring poems that suck to read.
ReplyDeleteThings i didn't really like about the whole day to day parts was we couldn't explore and bring things to a whole new level. When we did that we had exact rules and parts that we had to follow that had to be in the poem. When you do this next year i would recommend you not putting as many of your own rules and have a rule that they have to do like 2 creative parts to the poem that add something different to jazz it up. Another part i didn't like about this project was that we were in such small groups which didn't allow us to have more parts of chorus and echos. I didn't like also that we couldn't have like parts that we could like partially sing. I think that we should have a little bit less time it seemed that for part of the project we were doing the same part over and over again.
During our project i was working with Julianne, Maddy, and Shane we all are good friends which made our time working together so much fun, we were always dogging on each others work and making jokes. Almost every night we would have a 4-way call and practice our poem. In our poem me and shane would do a echo and we would always reverse the words and mess up and that really made all of us just shake our heads and laugh about how stupid we were because of us trying so hard to make it perfect. Whenever i think about poetry i always think about my group and how this project made me have so much fun and think about poetry in a whole new way.
I really enjoyed this project. It was the most fun project I've ever done. I enjoyed doing poetry. Poetry is super Seattle. We also got to work in groups. Our creativity was enhanced because of this. Creativity is key to poetry. I enjoyed performing in front of the whole team. They too could see our creativity.
ReplyDeleteThere were some aspects of this project that did not work. Some people did not do their jobs. For example, the time keeper did nothing. If the leader told them to do their job, they refused. Obviously this was not an issue in my group.
Some things could be better with this project. The group roles could be better. There should not be a time keeper. Also, there could be less things needed to corrupt the poem. Seattle frowns upon slaughtered poems. This will make the poem sound better.

ReplyDeleteThis was a good activity to expand the comfort level of not only many of our students, but also some of the teachers. Well done, Mr. Andree. I was so motivated with my group poem that next time I will grow a goatee and wear a beret to show my spirit :-)
This project was a great way to get kids who didnt really like to read or even think about poetry a chance to see what it is really all about. There were many things in this project which i liked. One thing that i liked was being able to choose our own teams. I liked this because it gave us a chance to actually choose the people that we were going to spend months with. Another thing which i liked was the time that we were given to do this project. i dont think that we could have pulled this project off if we tryed to add everything in at once and it was a great idea to have us add to this poem in layers. when all of the layers were added up we had a great poetry drill team sanwhich.
ReplyDeleteEven though i believe that this lesson was tought very well, there was few things which i didnt like. One thing which i didnt like was how we didnt get to know what poem we were choosing. its amazing how my group got a great poem like the one we did. Another thing that i didnt like was the organazation of each class. i mean come on we are kids, we are going to want to just sit there and talk and in many cases there were to many of us for you to watch. i believe that you should add a few more parts to add into this poem and be a little bit more specific about the body strikes and actual movement on stage. with that extra work it would be a little harder to sit back and chill and it would take the kids mindset off of, "hey its english, time to sit back and chill with my friends."
But all in all you did a great job teaching this lesson and im glad we got to get together at the end to watch eachother preform. thank you for showing so many kids that poetry doesnt always have to be boring because there is a poem to fit everyone.
Oh, and by the way if you are looking for a good body stike poem to go along with the military one search dinamite acapelo because that guy would help kids get an idea about how much creativity they could put into this project.
I found the poetry project very enjoyable. I thought it was a good idea to let us pick our own groups because we were with people we liked but we still had to make sure we got everything done. I liked that we had so much time because I feel that if we got everything at once, it would have been too overwhelming. I also liked the songs and other precision poetry drill team. I think my favorite part was the We Real Cool poem. I liked that we got to hear it three time said in such different ways. It let me know that we could put our poem to any tone and have it still be correct.
ReplyDeleteThis being said, there was an aspect I didn’t like very well. I didn’t like that the leaders were simply said to be in charge. I think they should have had to take notes. I also think they should have been given a sheet saying what points to take away for certain behavioral issues. This way if a group didn’t fulfill its potential, not everyone would be punished for it. I also think that would have kept the groups more on task when you weren’t around for the moment. Other than that I have no complaints.
Overall I really liked this project and think you should definitely do it again. I think of poetry now not so much as a bunch of words just thrown together, as a group of words that can be different for everyone. I also have a suggestion for you to help with simultaneous contrasting line and echo: One by one, one by one , the leaves fall down one by one, from the sky come falling one by one and leaf by leaf the summer is done. One by one by one by one by one by one by one. Split the class in two and after the first group says the first one by one, the second group comes in.
i really liked this project at the end. it started out really boring and useless but in the end it turned fun and i learned a lot from it. by doing the poems over and over again in our groups and in front of the class i improved on my annuciation. i also learned to read every word insted of murmuring the words together. you can understand the story a lot more if you annuciate.
ReplyDeleteThere wern't that many things that i disliked. I diddn't like how many times i had to practice the poems. I didn't like presenting in front the class and the whole green team in the high school. I also didnt like having assigned groups because if your scribe forgot a paper you were stuck. and i didnt like having daily assignments because it gave us to much time to goof off.
i liked having a group so it wasnt like one person screwed up and only that person. i liked having performances after like 30 practices to show off our skill.the assignment in general wasn't that bad except for my complaints. having a team day and getting cake was awsome and i think you should do it again. i learned alot from annunication to presenting and it was fun
